  1. My favorite Gene memory (besides all the great music!) is when the Lost Dogs played my church in the 90’s. Mike Roe played acoustic guitar while Gene sang “Jimmy”. Gene introduced the song by talking about the real Jimmy, and how he had just passed away. While Gene sang, tears streamed down his face. It was one of the most poignant moments I have ever witnessed in my life. I will never forget it…

  2. Thanks for putting this together. I’ve always wanted to have Gene’s job: producing and engineering music, and having a band on the side. He probably had a hand in more of the music I listen to than any other single person, and more music was recorded at the infamous Green Room than any other single location. Now that I think about it, hearing about Gene may have been one of the primary reasons that I developed a desire to be a producer.

After he passed away, I decided to make a compilation to showcase his amazing organ/keys playing skills. While that was perhaps one thing he was less known for, I think it was one of his best talents. There was probably more than once that I would be listening to a recording which I didn’t associate with Gene, but I’d hear an organ playing and think, “That sounds like Gene.” When I’d look in the credits, sure enough it was!
