Decided to start a twitter account just to post quick updates about interesting sites or news bits I find here and there.  Check it out at http://twitter.com/downthelinezine and be our “follower.”  Sounds cultish, huh? My twitter feed is also displayed in a widget on the left if you don’t want to drink the Web2.0 kool-aid.

Interviews are coming along great – we have some great information and background from Joshua Lory of L.S. Underground. Its always interesting to look at interview answers and wonder if you want to print the whole thing as in because it is full of great information, or write an actual article using quotes.  I guess we can do both, huh?  No page limits… no need to make room for more ads… hmmmm…. something to ponder….

So far we are looking at an October 8th launch date, in order to be closer to the new release of the L.S. Underground album. That’s not set in stone yet, but is looking more possible every day.

Currently on iTunes Playlist: Pyramid Breakfast, Blackhouse, Prophet, Rough Guide to Afro-Cuba, Rudra
Currently Watching: Stargate: Atlantis, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles

One Interview Down, Almost Ready!

We now have a great interview with Jeff and Daniel of Writ on Water ready to go.  They have some great insight in to existing as an indie band and their history and future as a band.  Writ on Water fans and bands wanting to know how to stay connected with fans and get music out there will really want to read this article.  Michael and Joshua of L.S.Underground are working on answering our crazy questions as we speak – can’t wait to hear that.

Fans of the Christian tape trading underground might remember a “radio-show-on-tape” called New Generation created by Jeani Bond of Key Records.  Jeani has converted some of those shows to digital format and put them online for free download.  There is some really rare stuff in there.

I was doing random searches for some of the bands in those shows, and came up with some interesting stuff online:

  • Salt Solution has a MySpace page and they even put out a CD of their songs called Arctic Frosties.  That CD can still be purchased for download (Salt Solution was featured on the ACM Journal’s 3rd Anniversary Compilation).
  • Walk the West has a MySpace page.
  • Circle One put all of their songs on CD called Are You Afraid?, which is really hard to find.  But you can find information about the album on this blog post.
  • Julio Rey of The Lead put up a cassette rip of the original version of The Past Behind on a “free music zone” called area1234.

Currently on iTunes Playlist: Zero (India); Balaam & the Angel; Ravi Harris & the Prophets; Heaven’s Edge; Shirley, Goodness and Misery
Currently Watching: Stargate Atlantis, crazy political speeches

Getting the Ball Rolling

We are hard at work on the very first issue of Down the Line magazine.  Which might not mean much to you now – but it will soon.  We have some great interviews lined up.  We already have a great story on the late, great Scaterd Few by Steve Ruff.  Michael Knott and Writ on Water have also agreed to interviews and are working on questions as we speak.  We should also be hearing from the bass player for L.S.Underground and Lifesavers: Joshua Lory.  All of this AND news, interviews, opinion columns, and whatever else we can stuff in there by deadline.

We are still getting our bearings and directions, but we want to hear from you.  Use the comments to let us know what you would like to read in future issues.  Or let us know if you have a band that fits in to our mission statement that we may have missed out on.

The target date for Issue 1 is October 1st – if we get our interviews wrapped up.  If not – we’ll just either delay the release date, or bump them up to future issues.  That’s the great thing about doing a free online magazine with no budget – we can put as much as we want in each issue and set the release date when we want.  Take that you corporate-owned, slave-to-the-grind major magazines!

(I’m sure that statement so made Rolling Stone wet in their pants…. we’re so intimidating and all….)

If everything works out, look for the cover story to feature MIchael Knott.  We may even have a really cool cover image lined up for ya – details to be announced soon.
