Abstain was Matt Wright, former guitarist for [[Primary Censor]]. Matt's time with the band saw them become fairly popular in the Texas industrial scene and later have that popularity result in the corruption and eventual downfall of the band. After their break-up, Matt got straightened out and went solo with Abstain. Wright was also involved in [[Coarse]] around this time.

Sound-wise, Abstain struck a near-perfect balance between electronics and guitars, much like [[Circle of Dust]]. Matt's years of experience resulted in material that was well-written and solidly performed. Amongst his influences he lists [[Circle of Dust]], [[Argyle Park]], 16 Volt, as well as a number of hardcore and punk bands.
