A work like this one which strives to integrate among several other things some Byzantine history and the choral tradition into a contemporary album sounded simply like it would be too heavy weight and even news that Mr Fitzgerald was getting many of Britain's top CCM players in to play on it couldn't shake the conviction that it would be way over the head of Joe Punter. Then we finally heard it. We were blown away. Completely bowled over. From the first haunting notes of "Ave Verum Corpus" to the closing strains of Adrian Snell's "Only Jesus", this magnificent piece of art, works on both the aesthetic level and as a work which will surely lead many into meditative worship. Our nomination for one of the thrilling musical moments of the year is when David soars sublimely over that angel-voiced Cambridge chorister. A master work. David Fitgerald and his bandmates in [[Iona]] as well as a few other artists have the vision to produce music that invokes the listener to harken back to another time in human history, by painting pictures with their musical instruments. If you are a fan of celtic music like [[Iona]], Clannad, Enya or [[Jeff Johnson]], this CD is for you!" Recorded partly in the studio, and partly in the St. Edmundsbury Cathedral, England, Lux Aeterna covers a number of themes, including the Crucifixion in the chilling "Golgotha"; the Resurrection, and of course, the meaning of 'Light'. The album contains numerous instrumentals, but several tracks include vocals. Guest appearances include [[Adrian Snell]], Claire Tomlin (Monteverdi Choir, Ex Cathedra choir), Joanne Hogg (lead singer of [[Iona]]), Nick Beggs (ex [[Iona]] and Kajagoogoo) and the St. Edmundsbury Cathedral Choir." After completing his master's degree in music he began recording collaborative projects with fellow musicians, revealing his love of the liturgical tradition. Teaming up with fellow ex-[[Iona]] member Dave Bainbridge (guitar, keyboard), and using wind and reed instruments as voices, together they provide a meditative backdrop for the reading of poetry by Anglican Canon Dave Adam. The theme of Adam's work, rooted in Celtic spirituality, is awareness of God's presence in the mundane affairs of everyday life."
