====== Paul Johnson ====== Surf Rock\\ Vista, California, USA "Paul Johnson was one of the founding fathers of surf guitar, writing the 1961 classic "Mr. Moto" for his band the Bel Airs. He floated around the genre for years after their breakup, eventually helping the revival of the genre with his work with [[the Packards]] in the '80s. The '90s found him joining the Surfaris for touring purposes, as well as helping to form the Duo-Tones with "Pipeline" author Gil Orr. Throughout it all, he also released several solo releases that were a hit in the surf rock underground." - Bradley Torreano, from [[https://www.allmusic.com/artist/paul-johnson-mn0000020790]] ===== Discography ===== | 1984 | Paul Johnson | [[https://christiantapeunderground.wordpress.com/2018/10/25/paul-johnson-escape-to-reality/|Escape to Reality]] | Hepcat | | 1985 | Paul Johnson | Guitar | Hepcat | | 1985 | Paul Johnson | Electric Guitar | Hepcat | | 1985 | Paul Johnson & the Packards | Guitar Heaven | [[Frontline Records]] | | 1987 | Paul Johnson & the Packards | California | [[Frontline Records]] | | 1993 | Paul Johnson & the Packards | Guitar Heaven & California | [[Frontline Records]] | ------ ==== Escape to Reality ==== 1984 Hepcat (HC 10) Paul Johnson – Guitars, bass, and linndrums - Scouse - The Magnificant - Front Edge of Time - Before the Feasttime - Kingdom Come - Gird Thy Sword On - Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus - The Truth - Joyful Blues - La Tierra Santa - Escape to Reality ------ ==== Guitar ==== 1985 Hepcat (HC 12) Paul Johnson – Guitars, bass, and linndrums - Vamonos - Don't Be too Proud (to Be God's Child) - Jubilee - Dawn of a New Day's Love - Looking Out My Window - Kami-kaze - Runaway - The Lonely One - I Wonder Why - Susie Darlin' - It Was I - Penetration ------ ==== Electric Guitar ==== 1985 Hepcat (HC 13) Paul Johnson – Guitars, bass, and linndrums - Sorry - Chiflado - California Dreamin' - Tequila Rag - Glenda and the Test-Tube Baby - Glory to God in the Highest - Talcahuana Girls - To Know Him is to Love Him - Rococo Rock - Streets of Gold ------ ==== Guitar Heaven ==== 1986 [[Frontline Records]] (RO9012) Paul Johnson - Guitar\\ Marc Burroughs - Rhythm guitar\\ Guy Hufferd - Bass guitar\\ Ray Huskey - Drums - Armor of Light (3:00) - The Magnificat (2:44) - Pressing In (2:31) - Joyful Blues (3:37) - Gird Thy Sword On (4:21) - Those That Seek Me Early Shall Find Me (3:50) - Don't Be Too Proud (To Be God's Child) (3:02) - The Lord is a Light to Me (2:46) - Let Us Go Into the House of the Lord (2:45) - He is Lord (3:06) ------ ==== California ==== 1987 [[Frontline Records]] Paul Johnson - Guitar\\ Marc Burroughs - Rhythm guitar\\ Guy Hufferd - Bass guitar\\ Ray Huskey - Drums - Kamikaze (2:37) - Escape To Reality (4:26) - Mr. Moto (1:49) - Baja (3:11) - Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus (3:39) - Squad Car (2:07) - Day Tripper (2:30) - Link Wray Medley: Rumble, Jack The Ripper, Rawhide (7:02) - Streets of Gold (3:52) ------ ===== Links ===== * [[http://www.pjmoto.com/|Paul Johson's Official Website]]
