Pony Express is the main band for [[Velvet Blue Music]] owner Jeff Cloud. The band usually comprises of Cloud and various friends that are available to record at the time. Pony Express formed and recorded a demo in 1994. The firs version of the band was Cloud on guitar and vocals, Jyro Xhan ([[Mortal]], [[Fold Zandura]], [[Juggernautz]], [[Jyradelix]]) on bass, Jason Martin ([[Starflyer 59]], [[Bon Voyage]], [[Dance House Children]], [[Morella's Forest California]]) on drums.

After the demo, the band was offered a contract with Via Records but turned it down because the label was in Nashville. There were also talks of having Jason record an album with them for [[Tooth & Nail Records]], but that didn't work out.

In 1996, Cloud formed [[Velvet Blue Music]] and the band (now with Darryl Mitchell of [[Upside Down Room]] and [[In a Lonely Place]] on bass) re-recorded "After August" from their demo for the b-side of the //Transparent With Blue Eyes// 7-inch single. Since then, Cloud has mostly focused on his label, while occasionally releasing 7-inches, EPs, and full-lengths - mostly with [[Velvet Blue Music]], but occasionally on other label.
