…“all I ever wanted, was a good job”… If you guys follow Knott or Aunt Bettys on Facebook I’m sure you have heard all about this show… but I’m gonna spill on it one more time. This was the first time that I have ever seen Aunt Bettys live, and actually the only time I have seen Knott with a band period. My wife and I live in Atlanta, GA completely on the opposite coast from where the Bettys were playing, but as soon as I knew the details we had tickets booked and travel arrangements made! It was one of those things that I couldn’t afford, but I had to figure a way to get there. It was a good choice! Aunt Bettys were playing with 3 other bands that evening and they were third to go on. The venue was Detroit Bar: a good sized little club...

DTL Live Report U2 10-12-2009

Finally – my first U2 concert. I have always lived too far away to make it to any previous U2 tours. But when they started building Jerry Jones’ Mothership (aka The Dallas Cowboys Stadium) around the corner from where I work – I only had one thought: when U2 tours, they are going to stop there. I just knew it was going to happen, and sure enough, my speculation proved to be true. And thanks to having an uber-U2 fan for a friend and a glitch in the Ticketmaster system, I was able to get floor seats before most fan club members could snatch them all up. The opening act for the night was Muse. I really like Muse’s albums, but I can’t really say if they are good in concert. The mix for their set wasn’t good, and I couldn’t see thanks to some drunk Muse fans that...

DTL Live Report: The Crucified 6-14-2009

The Gig in Diamond Bar, Ca The Crucified, first show since 1995, and a testimony of Faith from Sonny of P.O.D. Free Show!!!! Sonny, looking as stoked and amazed as I was, introduces with a “I can’t believe it….The Crucified!”. The band kicks off with the intro to “Hateworld”, Mark Salomon takes the stage, looks at the crowd and says, “You guy’s got old!” That may be the case for many in the crowd that evening, me included. I gotta tell ya, once the song kicked in full, I was 16 till the end of the night. I still get chills when Solomon, with that chilling desperate voice shouts, “This place is Evil, This Place is Evil!” The band still makes me want to pit, and that just doesn’t happen at my age, not that I’m old, just beat up. But this was the good ol’ no pit church...

DTL Live Report: Vigilantes of Love

VIGILANTES OF LOVEEDDIES ATTICDECATUR, GA1-23-2009 I was anticipating this show for weeks! Vigilantes of Love is absolutely my favorite Americana band, I have grown up listening to Bill Mallonee and company in whatever line up was playing at the time. Bill retired the Vigilantes in 2002 after well over a decade of non-stop touring and a list of critically acclaimed records with very little commercial success. Those of you that are fans know the story well. Bill has released at least 8 (depending on how you count them) solo records since disbanding the Vigilantes, and released more demos then you can count for several years under the now defunct  BillTunes service. I would argue that Bill’s output is unparalleled and that there is no one out there that puts out the amount of music that he does, and definitely no one that puts out stuff this rich and well...

DTL Live Report: Bill Mallonee 8-13-2008

BILL MALLONEE AND MURIAH ROSE EDDIE’S ATTIC   DECATUR, GA 8-13-2008 This was the third time this year that I have seen Bill and Muriah play, and they never disappoint. I am a huge fan of Bill’s music, and I actually believe that his music has improved since he disbanded the Vigilantes of Love. Not that the music has just improved, but the output has tripled and definitely grown lyrically and well as musically. Bill is one of those guys that could play for fifteen minutes to two people, and he would play as though it was a two hour set to a packed house. His heart is in the music and his music is on his sleeve. His wife, Muriah Rose, accompanies Bill with piano and vocals and it wouldn’t surprise me if Muriah came out with her own album at some point, she backs Bill up beautifully. My...

THE SEVENTY SEVENS 3 BEARS CAFÉ  MARIETTA, GA 6-20-2008 I was super excited to see this show. If you have ever seen the 77′s live you know that they put on a great performance. This was the first stop on their brand new Holy Ghost Building Tour, and it was also the release date of the new record. To top it all off I was recording the show as well, which is a cool thing that the 77′s and their management allow fans to do, it certainly keeps the trading circles buzzing. This was the first time that I have seen Roe & Co. live since 1999. It has been almost 10 years. The Seventy Sevens came out swinging, and it was the classic line up of Michael Roe, Mark Harmon, David Leonhardt and Bruce Spencer. The played several new tunes from the brand new album including “I’m Working...
