The Lassie Foundation to Release “California” and “Pacifico” on Vinyl

“The Lassie Foundation is a rock band from California most active between 1996 and 2008, and we are trying to re-release our first two albums, remastered, on vinyl!

If you’re not familiar with us, we made records and played mostly in and around Los Angeles, and we were lucky to be able to play with artists like The New Pornographers, The Walkmen, Low, At The Drive-In, Imperial Teen, Phantom Planet, Teen Heroes, and a ton of other great artists. Our songs have been featured on TV shows like “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”, “MTV Road Rules”, and even rando stuff like the Australian version of “The Bold and the Beautiful” soap opera. Skateboard folks might’ve heard our stuff over the closing credits of “Stuntwood” on Fuel TV. We also got some press from time to time, yadda yadda yadda.

Unfortunately our music has slowly disappeared from the Internet, so the band is in the process of remastering and re-releasing all of the albums, EPs, singles, split albums and split singles that were out there. Over the years, we’ve heard from a number of people wanting vinyl copies of the first two releases: 1996’s California EP and 1999’s Pacifico LP. So why not do some vinyl now?

Well, because it’s expensive. And because we aren’t sure there’s enough demand for it. So that’s why we’re doing a Kickstarter.

We’re hoping to raise enough money to release both California and Pacifico together as a special limited-edition vinyl + digital package, both on high-quality 180g vinyl, remastered, with new artwork and additional photography. Also, we are including the original album covers on 11″ x 11″ record flats printed on cover stock inserts. We’re calling this 2-vinyl package the Collector’s Edition.30

We’re not doing this to make any money. We just want the music to get out there so that folks can enjoy these songs that we’re really proud of. We just want fans and new listeners alike to hear it in a format that sounds rad, feels and looks cool, and will outlive whatever format we’re keeping our music on these days (for those who still love to own music).

Because everyone who supports the campaign will get digital Bandcamp downloads of California and Pacifico (if we reach our goal), we want to offer big thanks to everyone who’s already bought the remastered California digitally earlier this year. If you already bought California or the newly released Pacifico digitally and want to help us with this Kickstarter, we’d be happy to refund you for that earlier digital purchase, if you want. We just want to make it right for everyone in order to make this thing happen. Let us know if you’re one of these folks.

Thank you for reading this, and we hope you’ll consider supporting our campaign. These albums are very close to our hearts, and we’ve heard from so many of you who have been touched by this music. It’s difficult to express how grateful we are to hear those words—thank you so much. These are the reasons why all of us in the band keep coming back to this era, and we hope you’ll join us in bringing it into another one.

“Thank you,

Lassie Foundation.”
