Abhor Evil started off when the band members were 15. Their song "Zone Zong" was included on the [[R.E.X. Music]] sample //Demo-lition// in 1992. The band had offers from R.E.X. and [[Blonde Vinyl]], but thy decided to go with Blonde Vinyl. They had also shifted musical direction to be more of a heavy funk metal sound. [[Michael Knott]] did not like the name of the band, so they changed it to [[Ethereal Soul]]. The members of the band were 17 when they were signed. However, on the way to record their Blonde Vinyl debut, they received a call that the label had gone bankrupt. R.E.X. and [[Tooth & Nail Records]] were still willing to sign Ethereal Soul, but they decided to continue on as an independent act.
