Absence of Ceramics tried to play the new band showcase at Cornerstone 19991 (after having played there in the past), but were not successful. They were able to play an impromptu stage however. About a month later, Keni Warner got his equipment and never spoke to the band again.
In February of 1992, the band was contacted to play a gig. They asked Ken Hutchinson, formerly of The Reach (New Jersey) and Pookie and the Prophets, to play the gig. The show fell through, but Ken stayed on. A member of their church, Ron Connolly, then joined the band on saxophone. For a while, the line-up for Absence of Ceramics was Thom L. Inglin, Garth Kolbeck, Ken Hutchinson, and Ron Connolly. However, Garth soon announced he would be leaving the band once they found a new bass player. It appears he left on amicable terms.
The band recorded several pre-production recordings between 1991 and 1993, but never released them as an album until 1999.
