Randy Rose is a musician who has been playing professionally since 1987, when his older brother Roger formed Mad at the World, for which he played drums, sang, and wrote songs. When Mad at the World was a synthpop band during its first two years, Randy played percussion, worked on the drum programming, and sang backup vocals. Randy continued with drums and vocals as the band transitioned to a hard rock band in early 1990. He also formed his own metal band soon after, releasing albums either under his name or the moniker Rose. When Mad at the World first called it day, Rose went on to record various songs as Mood Ring and The Crocodiles, also forming the band Mothership (briefly named Saturn Project) in 1998.

Into the Unknown was first recorded as the follow-up to Healing. However, the label felt it was too dark and asked the band to record something lighter. So they went back and quickly recorded Crazy Little World as a more 60s retro alternative rock sound. Into the Unknown was later released by R.E.X. Music in 1995.
