New Society
Electronic / Industrial
Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA
“Rick Roman Jr. of New Society started experimenting with tech / industrial muzik in Chicagoland Illinois and was styled with Wax Trax muzik and other goth muzik. Rick named the endeavor “Society Mode” with tape versions of A Taste of Black and So Red a Revelation. In the year of 1990, The endeavor was named “New Society.” James Wayman , a friend of Rick, quit his band “Awaykening” and started working with Rick. Rick found a drummer named Dennis Linn. Some new songs were put on the (So Red a Revelation) tape and other New Society tapes. The “Society Mode” tapes were renamed as “New Society” sometime after Dennis had gone from the endeavor and started college. Rick and James then used a drum machine and accomplished the True Faith tape. Near the same time James started college, yet when home from School, James worked in the studio on muzik with Rick. Some time after, Eric Reinke and other muzishans started working with New Society. In the year 1998 the studio was destroyed, some of the old muzik and parts of the new muzik was destroyed. Rebuilding the studio took a few years, and Rick bought his first computer in the year 1999. The things Rick hates about computers is things named “Wizard,” and Rick hates the computers of evil men that could slave mankind.”
Rick Roman had a non-Christian band called Black Amendments that was basically his “attempt to rebel against God. When he got his life straight, he was involved with four bands through a youth group in Fox Lake, Illinois (Outcry (Illinois), Two, Guided Force, and Alert). Outcry was an alternative band like Duran Duran and U2. Once that band split, Roman felt free to explore house, disco, and industrial sounds. He first met James Wayman at a party in the Fall of 1986. There was a guitar in the room, so they started trading riffs and fills. They would jam together occasionally, but doing music together was put on the back burner while they were in high school.
Roman left that youth group and formed a band called Australia. It had nine members that were all high school friends with Roman. They were into experimenting with taping. But after high school, that band broke up.
Roman took two members from that band and started recording parts of A Taste of Black and So Red a Revelation before even forming New Society. Roman lost touch with those two members. James Wayman was in a cover band called Awaykening. He wanted to write original music, but the rest of the band didn't. He went to Roman in hopes of making an album. They liked what they came up with, and that is when New Society was born in 1989 - out of the ashes of Australia and Awaykening.
Roman and Wayman completed and released A Taste of Black and So Red a Revelation in 1990. At some point they were joined by Dennis Linn. His percussion was considered inspirational for the True Faith album, but he left half way through the recording sessions to pursue a football career. The band stagnated for a little while, but finally recorded a few more songs and completed the album.
True Faith was distributed at Cornerstone 1990. Later in the Fall, the bands music received write-ups in both White Throne and The Cutting Edge. All of this increased the attention on the band.
Due to the increasing interest, the band started recording Eternity. Wayman was not a part of the recording session due to college commitments, but he did contribute lyrical ideas and encouragement to Roman.
