Jon Sweetwood, Phil Schlotterer, Jon Yeager, and Dean Woods began together as The Sky Kings in 1997 around the Kansas City night club scene. Phil Schlotterer was formerly in DigHayZoose. They changed their name to The Daybirds by 1999 to release their debut CD turnstyle. They were reported to have a strong local following in 2000.
