Northwest Pacific

Calvary Fellowship in Seattle, Washington was a central place for underground Christian music in the early 90s. Gloria and Poor Old Lu were part of Calvary Fellowship. Aaron and Jessie Sprinkle’s Father was a pastor at the Church. The Church had a youth room where Bill Power started promoting shows. Bands from Portland like The Clergy would even come play. Dave Bazan (Pedro The Lion) and Damien Jurado also played shows at the Church. Dave and Damien were in a punk band called The Guilty.

Power would also get bands from out of state to play at the Church and other locations. Power worked at a show (doing lights) in Tacoma, Washington with Tom Stevenson (publisher of ACM Journal) for Scaterd Few. At that show Power met Mikee Bridges (of Sometime Sunday, Tragedy Ann, Tom Festival, etc). Bridges lived in Portland, Oregon at the time, so he and Power came up an idea to create network between Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver BC. Their goal would be to bring touring bands from out of state to the northwest. At one of the network meetings, Power met Brandon Ebel, who was a DJ at a radio station at Oregon State University at the time. Ebel's radio show was called the Thirsty Moon River Show.

The “House-O-Funk” was a group house that also had house shows. Members of Blenderhead and other bands lived there.

(Power started Fearless Donkey during this time as well - need more details).

Ebel soon graduated college and moved to California. There he got a job working at Frontline Records. Ebel started Tooth & Nail Records in 1993. Power convinced Ebel to let him run the label's mail order from Seattle. Ebel soon wanted to move back to the northwest to be near his family, but decided that Seattle was a better choice. Power helped Ebel find office space, and then Ebel promoted Power to Operations Manager for the label. Power and Matt Johnson of Blenderhead got a moving van and moved Ebel and the label from California to Seattle. The other two staff members that were working for Ebel in California (Aaron and Matt from Havalina Rail Co) decided not to move to Seattle. Ebel hired James Morelos as a label publicist. The label also hired a friend of Power's named Audra as well as Power's wife at the time as their accountant. Those five were the complete staff of Tooth & Nail Records when it first moved to Seattle.
